PhD Candidates' Council

As the official committee for doctoral researchers at Leipzig University, the PhD Candidates’ Council (ProRat) ensures representation of the interests of all doctoral researchers at the University.

Along with representing the doctoral researchers at Leipzig University both internally and externally, the responsibilities of the PhD Candidates’ Council include the following:

  • representing the interests of doctoral researchers in higher education policy;
  • advising and providing individual support during all phases of doctoral studies;
  • distributing information and organising continuing education programmes for doctoral researchers; and
  • providing opportunities for doctoral researchers to network with doctoral researchers from other subjects and other higher education institutions.

International Doctoral Initiative

The International Doctoral Initiative at our university was founded in 2005 as an association of international doctoral researchers. The aim is to promote exchange between international doctoral researchers, strengthen social networks, support academic development, and provide opportunity for doctoral researchers to have fun and make new friends.

The Initiative regularly organises cultural, social and academic events for international doctoral researchers at our university and is there to help out in any way they can.

RALEIPZIG DOCTORAL REPRESENTATIVES

The structured doctoral programmes (e.g. Graduate Schools, Research Training Groups, IMPRS) have at least one elected representative. This representative serves as a liaison between the doctoral researchers and the academic coordinators and spokespersons. A small number of these representatives are then elected to serve as Doctoral Representatives for the Research Academy Leipzig (RA-Doc). These representatives are in close contact with the PhD Candidates’ Council (ProRat) and the Graduate Academy office.

Following the renaming of the Research Academy Leipzig as the Graduate Academy Leipzig, this body is to be restructured in the future.
