Career Talks

Career paths...

The Career Talks will take place on three different dates and will last approximately one hour each. Afterwards, participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and exchange ideas with the speakers. A great opportunity to get an insight into possible career paths after your doctorate!

The relatively young career field of science management is often little known to doctoral students. However, this career path offers the opportunity to perform a wide range of tasks in support of science. In this Career Talk, speaker Dr. Cathleen Heil will talk about her personal path into science management and provide valuable insights into the field. If you have personal questions or doubts about your current plans, or if you would like to weigh up whether this career field offers the right prospects for you, please feel free to bring your concerns to the discussion. You can look forward to an open exchange in which you can ask your questions in an informal setting.

This event will be in German.

An academic career is often seen as the classic path after a doctorate. However, the path to a professorship is challenging and not always predictable. In this Career Talk, you will have the opportunity to discuss this with junior professor Dr Daniela Russ. Find out first-hand which decisions and events have shaped her personal career and what tips she has for a career in science. Take the opportunity to put your questions directly to her and discuss careers in science with her.

This event will be in English.

Moving to the private sector after a doctorate can be an attractive option. However, a career in industry often differs from a previous academic career. Work can be characterised by interdisciplinary collaboration, a stronger practical focus, shorter development cycles and a more intensive focus on results. These changes require certain adjustments in order to be successful. Exchange with experienced industry representatives provides valuable insights. In this Career Talk, scientist Dr Maria Stuckenberg talks about her personal career path into industry. Find out how she was able to apply the knowledge she gained during her doctorate, the challenges she faced and the valuable tips she can give you for moving into the private sector. Take the opportunity to share your thoughts and ask questions.

This event will be in German.
