Course Description
The participants explore the differences and grey areas between good research practice, questionable practices and misconduct. They learn how violations of good research practice can be recognized and prevented, and how and why they should be addressed and dealt with in case if they occur, and what damage they can cause if handled improperly.
The participants will learn how to protect their scientific work and are encouraged to speak with colleagues and supervisors about important issues. They will reflect on the reasons for engaging in good scientific practice and receive instructive materials and links to helpful websites.
The content of the workshop follows the curriculum “Good scientific practice” which was commissioned by and developed in cooperation with the German Research Ombudsman:
- Good research practice
- Examples, degrees and extent of scientific misconduct
- Documenting the research process
- Managing research data and sources
- Authorship and the process of publication
- How to deal with scientific misconduct
- Responsibility and accountability in science
Local, national and international guidelines and regulations on good scientific practice and scientific misconduct
ECTS-Points
0,5 Credit Points can be obtained by attending this course. Please contact your faculty for the recognition of performance for the doctoral degree.
