Through the Leibniz MOBILITY programme, we promote international exchange at our university. The programme includes the two funding lines Leibniz INVITATIONS and Leibniz TRAVEL.
Leibniz INVITATIONS makes it possible to invite international researchers to our university to engage in an intensive exchange of ideas. With Leibniz TRAVEL, early postdocs, who are members of the Graduate Academy Leipzig, have the opportunity to apply for financial grants for active conference participation, research or networking stays at international universities and research institutions.

Leibniz INVITATIONS

With funding from the Leibniz INVITATIONS programme, we support international visiting researchers at our university who provide a significant contribution to the support of early career researchers.

The Leibniz Programme INVITATIONS provides funding for international visiting researchers. The minimum requirement is a doctorate.

We give priority to short stays of one to five days.

Leibniz INVITATIONS includes financial support for travel and accommodation costs. Remuneration is set forth in the Leipzig University fee regulations (Chapter 5: Guest Stays). The inviting person is responsible for organising the stay in Leipzig.

We expect our Leibniz guests to participate in the qualification phase of doctoral researchers, for example, by giving lectures and workshops and participating in colloquia, excursions, and summer or winter schools. We expressly welcome other event formats from which postdocs also benefit.

Please note the following deadlines for application:

  • 31.03. for travel between 1 May and 31 August of the same year.
  • 30.06. for travel between 1 August and 31 November of the same year
  • 30.09. for travel between 1 November and 28 February of the following year
  • 31.12. for travel between 1 February and 31 May of the following year

Before submitting an application for support of a guest stay for an international scientist, you must register as a member of the Graduate Academy Leipzig. The application for a grant includes the following steps:

  1. Before applying, check whether the requirements for a subsidy are met.
  2. Fill out the web form and upload the attachments. If you are unsure about some of the information, please contact Viola Gründemann in advance.
  3. We will get back to you as soon as possible with the funding decision.
  4. During the stay in Leipzig, the guest signs a formal guest agreement with the University. The terms will be clarified before the stay.
  5.  Please retain the original of the application form for support for a visiting researcher, including all attachments, for accounting purposes.

The selection criteria include the following:

  • compelling teaching approach and research objectives
  • the broadest possible involvement of doctoral students/postdocs
  • an added value in the qualification phase of the members (e.g. new methods)
  • long-term benefits, e.g. through a jointly planned publication

Leibniz TRAVEL

With funding from the Leibniz TRAVEL programme, we support early postdocs who are planning an active contribution at an international conference or an international research or networking stay.

We support the following:

  • participation in an international conference with an active contribution (lecture or poster with first authorship)
  • invitations to hold a lecture at a university or research institute
  • research stays to learn new methods
  • participation in the organisation of conferences
  • travel to network meetings

We do not support stays to fulfil general project tasks such as field research or collecting samples.

The maximum travel allowances are €500 for travel within Europe and up to €800 for travel outside Europe. The support covers costs for travel and accommodation but does not include daily allowance ("Tagegeld").
